Barclay Damon Adds Leading Data Privacy and Security Protection Lawyer Charles Nerko to NYC Office

September 28, 2021—Barclay Damon announces Charles Nerko, partner, has joined Barclay Damon’s rapidly expanding Cybersecurity Team as co-team leader as part of the firm’s broader Commercial Litigation and Financial Institutions & Lending Practice Areas. His primary office location is New York City, and his secondary office location is Albany.

As Cybersecurity Team co-leader, Nerko’s practice focuses on advising and litigating on behalf of clients whose data privacy and security are central to operations and the core functions of their business. He has national experience resolving disputes involving information protection, technology, and commercial contracts. Nerko also advises his clients on strategies to achieve their business goals while minimizing legal risks.

Nerko serves as lead counsel to financial institutions throughout the United States in litigation matters, represents a wide range of businesses in bet-the-company disputes, and has been contacted by competitor law firms to represent them in a variety of disputes implicating legal ethics and the protection of attorney-client privileged information.

Connie Cahill, Barclay Damon’s managing partner, said, “We’re thrilled to add Charles to our roster of highly skilled commercial litigation, financial institutions and lending, and cybersecurity attorneys. His experience and proven track record of success are a strong match for Barclay Damon’s talent and capabilities.”

“The addition of Charles to our New York City office aligns with Barclay Damon’s focus on strategic growth in our major market office locations,” said Lizz Acee managing director of the firm’s major markets offices, including its New York City office.

Nerko is a former emergency medical technician, which is the origin of his dedication to providing pro bono services to emergency medical services advocacy and education initiatives.

Prior to joining Barclay Damon, Nerko was a principal at Offit Kurman, PA, an associate at Vedder Price PC and O’Melveny & Myers LLP, and served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Loretta A. Preska of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Barclay Damon attorneys team across offices and practices to provide customized, targeted solutions grounded in industry knowledge and a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses. With nearly 300 attorneys, Barclay Damon is a leading law firm that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in the Northeastern United States and Toronto.
